The Rope Swing. {faith like a child}

My children had the time of their lives at their aunt’s house this weekend. We all gathered over a delicious cook out/ potluck, talked, laughed, played corn hole and catch, but most of all…..had a swinging good time.

My mother in law gave my youngest daughter a BIG push…{I held my breath and shut my eyes}.

She had absolutely NO FEAR…and enjoyed the ride, as she should have.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:25-34

This little thing was flying high too! No seat belt, no helmet, no arm pads or knee pads….just a rope , a push and gravity {This picture is enough to make me want to bite my nails}.

She even reached out to touch a branch…leaving me to squeal… now she was only hanging on with one arm!

But alas…her turn was finally over and my fear was for nothing. Her enjoyment was hers to keep.

This is what it’s like to have faith like a child.

So many times I get caught up thinking of everything I need  to teach my children, then it’s this verse that comes to mind and humbles me….oh, does it humble me!!!!

And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on them.” Mark 10:13-16

Speaking of being humbled…. I had NO idea my mother in law was taking this candid video of “my turn” on the rope swing. I bet you can see the difference between my faith and the faith of my little girl….hehehe.

I worried first over breaking the branch and hitting the tree before just having fun. I am learning a little bit from that little girl, aren’t I? Oh, and notice her yelling to Daddy “Give her an underdog!” HA!

Thanks for the push Geoff Nehrenz. 😉

  1. Hold tightly to the Father’s hand, and hang on for the ride! I wish I lived like that every single day.

  2. Beautiful pictures! There’s nothing more carefree than a child on a rope swing. Thanks for sharing.

  3. So much fun! Love it…

  4. What a lovely post about faith. If we could be like the picture of your daughter, eyes closed sailing through the air, having the faith she was in good hands!!! Would it be ok to pin this to my Faith board on Pinterest? Thank you for an uplifting post!

  5. What beautiful pictures! What a great post. I also try to remind myself about those verses in Matthew when I stat worrying needlessly. Especially at the end where is says, don’t worry about tomorrow for today has even trouble of its own. How true that is!

  6. How fun Janelle!!! The scenery is beautiful as well!

  7. Wow!! I liked how you connected the swing with trusting the Lord.
