Happy Valentine’s Day, Honey…

Dear Geoff…

As I was driving today, this song came on and as always…it made me think of you. Here are the words she sang as I envisioned the “span of your grin”- I do love your smile.

All the More

Christa Wells

Clear as a cloudless sky
Or the countless reasons that I fell
In love with a boy from a small town that I never heard of
It was first the great span of your grin
That caught me and reeled me in
I was raised not supposed to be kissed
Otherwise I would have

You were perfect in so many ways
I thought, surely, one of these days
Some skeleton’s gonna come calling
After a while I came to see
That your humanity
Only made me want you all the more

All the more, all the more
I have loved you all the more
For the many things you don’t realize you do
I have loved you all the more

The beauty of loving through time
Is the intimate knowledge of lines
And of creases that tell all the stories we’ve written together

You’re in love with the truth about me
All the scars that no one else sees
And that vision you have speaks louder than a thousand love letters

All the more, all the more
I have loved you all the more
For the many things you don’t realize you do
I have loved you all the more

You were perfect in so many ways
I thought, surely, one of these days
Some skeleton’s gonna come calling
After a while I came to see
That your humanity
Only made me want you all the more

All the more, all the more
I have loved you all the more
For the many things you don’t realize you do
I have loved you all the more

All the more, all the more
I have loved you all the more
For the many things you don’t realize you do
I have loved you all the more

For the many things you don’t realize you do
I have loved you all the more

Then, I started thinking about the many things “you don’t realize you do” that have meant so much to me. Every time you look at me with smiling eyes, tell me you love me, pray with the baseball team, kiss our little girls, pat our son on the back, call me throughout the day, make me morning coffee and so many other things I take for granted. I thank God He placed you in my life.

“The beauty of loving through time”….wow. We were only 22 when we got married-that sounds so young. We’ve been through so much together as a couple and as a family now. When 1 Cor 13:4-8 was shared on our wedding day, I didn’t  know how deep our love was going to get. Through the good, bad, sick, healthy, richer and poorer of days…pregnancies, births, deaths, bonuses and job losses, little faith and now…a lot-We’ve seen love through time. That sure is beautiful.

And “You’re in love with the truth about me“…You see the “real” me that not everyone sees. I’m not always happy, cheerful, confident, and encouraging. I came scarred and ridiculously fearful. You’ve been so patient and so kind to me about that…you’ve never ridiculed me. Thank you. I’m sure that part of me is not always fun to be married to…

“Your visions” amaze me…I’ve never known someone to take such enormous leaps of faith with great courage. You balance me and my fears. I know you would do anything for us.

“Your humanity” also makes me love you all the more. On our wedding day, when the children were born, and when you’re proud of one of us….you get teary. Do you realize I keep a mental recording of all of those moments? I feel so lucky to have a manly man with a soft heart… I totally scored what every woman wants.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Honey….I LOVE you and am going to keep on loving you all the more!!!!

He,he……I hope you like your beef jerky.

{…and because I forgot I already got you a card, here’s another. You know, because like every guy- you love cards so much.}

Happy Valentine’s Day to my friends reading today! Much love to you!

  6. Janelle, that was the most beautiful Valentine’s tribute to your husband. It brought tears to my eyes. Your husband is blessed to have you as his wife. I have loved getting your posts into my email box and share your recipes and spiritual words with my friends in hopes that they too will subscribe.

Your words are so encouraging and uplifting for all of us to aspire to in trying to be the christian women that God has designed us to be for our husbands. I see such a difference in my husband with just a few encouraging or affirming words. Thanks once again for showing your beautiful heart. You have the awesome gift of hospitality and the gift of encouragement as well. What a blessing you are.

May God continue to Bless You and your ministry. Happy Valentine’s Day. :)
