I had the pleasure of reading this wonderful book over this past long weekend while vacationing with my husband in the mountains. It felt so nice to curl up with a blanket next to a huge fireplace and read something truly inspiring! “Reshaping it All” is written by Candace Cameron (Who is featured on the ABC family drama “Make it or Break It” and who starred as DJ on the beloved show “Full House”) and co-authored by Darlene Schacht (Founder and former Editor of Christian Women Online magazine, and author of www.the-time-warp-wife.com) Candace shares her life song with us by unveiling the struggles she has had with food. She explains how her faith in God has helped her achieve her goal of being healthy inside and out.
I would like to start out by sharing with you my “dog eared” pages…these are the quotes that really spoke to me:
” If you want something you’ve never had before, you have to do something you’ve never done before”
-Author Unknown (p 44)
” Stay in communication with God, monitor your behavior, and buddy up with a partner” (p 57)
” There is a popular term in the land of the lean called HALT- are you Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired? If you are hungry than proceed but if you are responding to an emotion than HALT!” (p 60)
“Submit yourselves, then to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7) “When we resist temptation it eventually leaves” (p 83)
“In scripture after scripture the Bible stresses the importance of controlling our bodies, our tongues, and our thoughts….anyone who has reached a high level of weight loss has had self-discipline” (p 95)
All of these quotes are great ingredients to make a perfect recipe for a healthy lifestyle. They are God backed, simple, and make perfect sense.
Since I was reading this book while I was on a mini weekend getaway…I want to share with you some of MY own obstacles that I faced over the weekend . This book helped with my own convictions and ultimately…my decisions! Here we go!
Candace talks about moderation and being able to treat yourself every now and again. SO! I SPLIT dessert with my husband (I could have totally eaten the whole thing). |
This was the breakfast menu…and I was told the two BEST things were the Eggs benedict and the House made Corn beef hash…what did I get? OATMEAL…Win for me! (That was very hard for me actually) |
For lunch, I opted for a vegetarian bean soup…it was so good and kept me full! ( I wanted a burger and fries) |
Lay out on a baking pan and drizzle with Extra Virgin Olive Oil |
Add pepper and salt and roast in a 400 oven for approximately 25 mins. |
Whala! This, accompanied with Hawaiian broiled chicken and couscous with pine nuts made a very yummy and healthy meal!
Candace’s Oven Roasted Asparagus Preheat the oven to 400 (p 106) Loved the book, Thank you Darlene!!! Candace, keep spreading the Good Word!!! Ladies…you have GOT to read “Reshaping It All”!!! Get Reshaping It All on Amazon.com! |

It was a great book. I was very surprised at how it was written and the message. It was definitely not just a "how to get skinny" book but a great encouragement on how to let God into every aspect of your life. Way to go Janelle on putting those principles into practice! Especially the dessert 🙂
I liked the book too! The brocoli recipe was a hit at my house. I followed this reading up with Made to Crave and I've stayed away from most processed foods and real sugar for three weeks–I'm not following a diet. I'm just trying to really learn what my body needs and to listen to it. Great reads that helped me greatly!
Love this review, and can't wait to send Candace over to look at your photos. Wow!!
I'm off for a little nap then I'll tweet this and get stuff ready for you. 🙂 Thank you!!!!!!!
I want to add this book to my reading list for this year! Can't wait to read it!
Thanks for the tips. I grabbed your button today for my blog, I read all the time. And appreciate your thoughtful posts. Blessings!

Janelle,
When the weather improves (or if your husband is anything like mine and grills no matter the temperature), then also try the asparagus on the grill. We eat a lot of them during the summer months.
Heather, you will love it..it is an easy read! Thanks Lara!! Milk and Honey-lol, we have the grill pulled up to the back door and it is snowing!!! Great minds,hu?!
Thanks Daningo! I agree..I liked that this book is more of a tool than a "diet"…useful tips to take through life. EDE, I pray you have much success …so hard getting off of sugar isn't it?! What an addiction we have to it! I have the same mentality…no diet, just wiser choices and moderation for the long haul! Darlene- you are welcome my Friend! You ladies should be very proud of yourselves…I am sure it was a lot of hard work!!! I benefited from it for sure, so thank you!
I have been doing my asparagus this way since last year, I actually found it in Rachel Ray's 2-4-6-8 Cookbook, we like to cook until the tips are lightly blackened on the edges… yummo! if only somehow you could counteract the smell of the asparagus, yano afterwards :-/
oooh and ps if milk and honey momma, if you take the asparagus and blanch it (boil them very briefly, then shock them in ice water) you can grill and they will NOT lose any color even if you grill for awhile!
I can't wait to read this book. That aspargus looks yummy too. Thank you for sharing Janelle!
Blessings to you!
Adrienne
This asparagus looks delicious. I need to check this book out. Everyone is talking about it!
Holly, Great tips! Thanks everyone!
I also cook my asparagus like this with the addition of a little drizzle of balsamic vinegar. The balsamic gets all sweet and caramelized. I have also waited until after it cooks to hit it the the balsamic vinegar which is good too, but I prefer the sweetness to having it caramelized.
Terryl, I LOVE balsamic! (and anything sweet, lol)
I really enjoyed this book and have recommended it to many friends. I am getting ready to re-read… And highlight!
A note on the recipes- my favorite so far has been the chopped salad- I could live on it!
I just booked a womens conference where Candace Cameron Bure will be speaking and I can't wait to hear her testimony. What a wonderful role model she is for so many women and how great that she can so easily "marry" Christian living and "popular culture"- it has helped me to talk to many people about what Christian living is, and with great results!
I JUST made the asparagus this evening for dinner. I paired it with Crock-Pot chicken and quinoa. What a yummy meal! This is definitely the way to cook asparagus! And I remembered your tip about bending the asparagus. It worked beautifully. Thank you!
