"Oven Baked" French Fries

I don’t know about you, but I have a SERIOUS weakness when it comes to french fries! I never order them out, but I ALWAYS steal them off my husbands plate (I pretend the calories don’t count that way). My favorite kind of fries are carnival fries…the ones that come in a cup and you pour vinegar and ketchup over top of them…yep, the REAL greasy ones that are just NO good for me!
SO!
I have found a way to give into my taste buds AND be nice to my body all at the same time..This is such an easy recipe for oven baked fries. It cuts out the “frying” and doesn’t give you that heavy “I just ate something I shouldn’t have” feeling. My entire family LOVES these!!!
(If you don’t have a slicer, it is okay…I have cut potatoes for years using just a sharp knife)
The slicer I use is the professional multi-chopper @ Williams Sonoma http://www.williams-sonoma.com I received it as a gift, but it is priced reasonably-I use it every day!)
Slice 5-6 baking potatoes like so..
Lay out fries on a baking sheet- if your baking sheets are small, you may need to disperse them on 2 sheets
Drizzle with olive oil
Sprinkle with Sea Salt (or regular table salt)
Bake at 425 for 45 mins (flipping every so often)
MMMM!!!! A great side to casual week day dinner
(We had these tonight with turkey and swiss ciabatta sandwiches!)
Oven Baked French Fries
4-5 baking potatoes
2 Tbsp olive oil

2 tsp sea salt (or table salt)
Pre-heat oven to 425. Wash and dry potatoes and slice lengthwise into strips. Lay out sliced potatoes on  a baking rack. Drizzle with oil and sprinkle with salt. Bake in oven for 45 mins, flipping fries half way through. Serve with ketchup! MMMmm!
Enjoy! ~Janelle

Now this is what I am talking about!!! I LOVE me some fries!! Now I wont feel so guilty eating them. Ill get my points for them!!! lol

  2. Baked fries in the oven are a wonderful treat! I just bought a bag of sweet potatoes to make into fries later this week. Delicious!

  3. I do oven baked fries and love them! The only thing I do differently is soak them in water with a couple of tablespoons of sugar for about 20 minutes. Then pat them dry and put them on the baking sheet and drizzle with oil and put the salt on them.

The sugar water draws out the liquid from the potatoes so that when you put them in the oven they crisp instead of steam. It really does make them crispier (if you like crispy fries). I like them better than any fries you can get at a fast food place!

(I got my recipe from a weight watchers cookbook)

    YUMMY!

  4. Love your site, and these sound delish, not to mention eaZ-y!! I'm going to try the sweet potato version, as well! And, I do have a question for you or anyone that might read this … would you, by chance, have a recipe for baked potato chips? I have 10 lbs. of Russet potatoes that I need to do something with, and quick! 🙂

I adore oven baked fries. With this pregnancy, I eat fries like it's my BUS-NASS. Emphasis on the last part as that is the anatomy that is GROWING exponentially. This made me really hungry. *scurrying off to hoard potatoe chips as there are no fries in my house!*

  10. Janelle Nehrenz says:

Lol, Ammie…Ahhhh….those pregnancy cravings, I remember them well…I still get them and I am not even pregnant! HA!

  11. Hi Janelle

I use this recipe for years, too and my children like these fries even more than the precooked ones you can buy :-). If you want to use even less oil, just put the potatoe sticks in a big bowl, put two big spoons of oil and a tablespoon of salt in and mix – then put on the baking sheet. You need even less fat/oil and salt but have the same result! Have to do them next week!!!

  12. Janelle Nehrenz says:

Great idea Katja! Yes, I like them waaay better than precooked.
