Making homemade meatballs is so easy and a lot less expensive than purchasing pre-made! Here is the recipe that has been in my family for 4 generations. You will love how moist they become after simmering in a large pot of sauce all day….top them on spaghetti for dinner and make a delicious meatball sub for lunch the next day!
recipe |
In large bowl add ground chuck, eggs, parsley, salt, pepper, bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, chopped onion, and milk |
Combine well with hands |
Heat oil on medium -high heat |
Roll meat mixture into balls about the size of a golf ball |
brown for about 5 mins |
turn over an brown on the other side |
You do not have to cook all the way through…just brown on both sides. This will give it color and flavor. |
Place in your sauce |
Let simmer for 4-6 hours on stove. The meatballs will finish cooking in the sauce. |
Whala! |
Delicious.
Serve with Grandma Ruth’s Spaghetti Sauce! |
Meatballs
2 lbs ground chuck
2 eggs slightly beaten
1 Tbsp of parsley
1 tsp salt

1/2 cup chopped onion
1/2 cup milk
Mix well, form into balls (golf ball sized), cook in hot olive oil. Brown on both sides and let simmer in sauce for 4-6 hours on stove.

Oh my this looks YUMMY! I so cant wait to try this out on our next Spaghetti Madness night!! hugs
Wow! My husband would love this – I have never made my own homemade meatballs…why you ask??? Ummmm…cause it's so easy to just brown the meat and make meat sauce – but you inspire me – I must do this for my family…they'd think I was the bomb lol!!! 🙂
Thanks for the recipe!
Courtney
Courtney, yes it is easier to make meat sauce! Good idea! lol! Sonya..spaghetti madness..sounds fun!!
Just wondering – can you cook them half way and than freeze them – than throw them in the crockpot frozen and cook in a sauce?? In my head I say yes but I thought I would post here and see if I get a response. We love meatballs and they are so expensive to buy so making a big batch of these and freezing them would be perfect!
Yes Jackie, I just did it this afternoon. But, I was just simmering my sauce on the stove for a couple of hours. About 30 minutes before serving, I took the previously cooked meatballs from the freezer and added them to the simmering sauce. This is just one way you can thaw frozen meatballs.

I made this tonight so tomorrow’s dinner would be easier (meatball subs) and we loved it! Thank you for sharing!
Yummy! I’ve never attempted this before but now feel empowered! So I would assume these would be okay tossed in the crock pot with the sauce at a certain time of day?
Thanks for this wonderful recipe, my mom always had a good one but never followed a recipe and no matter what I do I cannot duplicate it.
Yes, absolutely!!! <3
