Sauteed Cabbage with Bacon

Sometimes we are just “at a loss” when it comes to side dishes….mashed potatoes and corn are lovely, but when you are in the mood for something different this sautéed cabbage hits the spot! This is something I remember my mom making for me as a child~ I always loved it and still do. It’s quick, simple, and tasty! Hope you’ll enjoy it too!

Brown 6 slices of bacon {I use center cut} in a large stock pot on med-high heat. Add 2 Tbsp of olive oil and 1/2 of an onion chopped.

Rinse cabbage , tear into small pieces, then place in the stock pot. Use tongs to stir well. Set stove to medium heat and let cook for appx 15-20 mins until tender.

Season with cracked black pepper and salt! Mmmm….

  1. I am definitely going to be raising cabbage next year. With all the bloggers out there, I’m finding good recipes to try out! Thanks for posting this.

  2. We also do this on the grill in wedges wrapped in foil with a pat of butter as well as the ingredients you listed. When it feels light to pick up then it is cooked, we like our bottom layers burned because it adds some extra flavor!

  3. We are huge cabbage fans in this house (I never thought I would say that but my husband has taught me to love it) and this sounds so perfect! One question (because I’m so literal) do you chop up the bacon so that there are pieces throughout or just serve it with the full slices of bacon (we LOVE bacon too HA!)

    • Jackie, what a great question! I just served my bacon whole- HOWEVER, you can chop the bacon up {with a pizza cutter} while it is uncooked and fry it in small pieces to have it throughout…Mmm

      • Both would be great – but I think we would fight over the whole bacon slices in this house 😉 LOL This recipe is going on next weeks menu!!

        • I did make this recently and it was SOOO good. I did chop the bacon into medium size pieces and it work great too 🙂

  4. Glad you are back… This looks great!

  5. I like to add some cooked pasta to the cabbage when I make this side dish.
