Poppyseed Ham and Cheese Sliders

IMG_2946

This recipe is excellent for feeding a crowd, a lazy Sunday, a meal ministry, or for having company over! It can be served as an appetizer, in addition to a brunch, for lunch or for dinner. Delicious and easy….you just can’t ask for more than that! I made these for friend this week and for my step-dad who had surgery. He texted me stating that these were his new favorite sandwiches! (and HE is picky, hehe).

* A special thanks my friend Faith for this yummy recipe that was placed in my mailbox 😉

Make ham and cheese sandwiches with dinner rolls.

In a medium saucepan add 1/2 cup butter, 2 Tbsp mustard (yes, the kind you put on hotdogs), 1 Tbsp Worcestershire, 1 Tbsp poppyseeds, 1/3 cup brown sugar.

Bring to just boiling over medium heat.

Pour sauce ONTOP of sandwiches, cover with foil and bake in a 350 oven for appx 20 mins. YUUUUMMM!!!! A sweet yet buttery flavor will soak into your sandwiches …who doesn’t love sweet and savory? A winner recipe girls! You have to try this one!

Here is the meal I sent home with my mom to my Step-dad (his second knee replacement, owch!) Unbaked ham and cheese sliders with sauce on the side and baking directions, a simple salad (the way he likes it), and unbaked apple dumplings.

Looks yummy! I will be trying these very soon. I wonder if it would be too sweet to use Hawaiian rolls?! I often make a baked sandwich on them with muenster and green olives and it is soooo good.

  3. Melinda says:

Did you cover the sandwiches with foil while baking? They look delicious and I so want some now!

  4. wow o wow! i just made these and its a hit at my house, will make these again and again. super easy and super tasty!

  5. Any chance you could share the apple dumpling recipe ? I’m not finding it under dessert? Thank you in advance! God bless!

  6. My co-worker brought these in for our office lunch today and they were absolutely delish! Everyone went in for seconds because they were soooooo good! I can’t even describe just how delicious they are! So glad I was able to find the recipe so can’t wait to try it out myself 🙂 Thanks!!!

    • Wohoo! Thanks Robin!

      • I want to make these the day before I serve them and was wondering if I could make the sauce the day ahead as well. Do I need to reheat the sauce before pouring over the sandwiches and baking? Or should I just make them the day of the event? Thanks!

        • You can make the sandwiches up and cover them in plastic wrap and make the sauce the next day and pour over and bake! Very simple and yummier than you would ever think!

  7. I fixed these for dinner tonight. They’re GREAT! So glad I stumbled upon this recipe.

  8. Just made these and I am wondering from your pic of the sauce, did you use 1.5 sticks of butter? Did the recipe get typed wrong instead of 1/2 c was it supposed to read 1 1/2 c. I halved my recipe and did not have a whole lot of sauce.

    • Hi Amanda! The sauce is just supposed to be enough to give the bread flavor…not to saturate. But please go forward with your liking and double it if you want to have more sauce! It is very yummy! lol!

    • I make thesee all the time and double the reciepe for the sauce and drench them everyone raves over them

    • I’m also looking at the picture and am confused….does the picture show 1 and a half sticks of butter which would equal 3/4 cups?….yet the recipe only calls for 1/2 cup?
Perhaps Janelle could make it a little bit clearer for those of us who are perfectionists…a long word for OCD, lol…..
Not complaining at all….love the site and thanks, Janelle, for the awesome recipe!!!

  10. Have you ever tried freezing them? My cousin is a busy college student and doesn’t always like to cook for her and her fiance. I was thinking of making them up some freezer meals, and I think they would love these. I know my family does! Would I freeze the sandwiches unbaked and then just leave the sauce on the side? Could the sauce be frozen too so that it would last longer? Thanks so much for this recipe! We have it all the time with soups or just by themselves! I always double the recipe when making ours. 🙂

This looks so yummy ….Do they need to be served hot right out of the oven or could they be served room temp ? I have a party to go to and these would be perfect :)thank you Jenelle.

  12. is there anything else i could add instead of brown sugar, my husband is not a fan of sweet stuff over normal food? could i just do the other ingredients and skip the sugar?

  13. Ready to make these for the Big Game tomorrow… my fiance is excited to try them, thanks for the great idea!

  14. Melissa Davis says:

When you sent these unbaked did you put the sauce on or did you do this right before baking? I’m going to make these for a bridal shower and would love to do as much prep work before the shower as possible. Thanks:)

  15. Love this recipe! I’ve made it several times for large crowds and new babies. I was wondering if anyone had any luck with making the sandwiches, freezing them in a disposable pan, then defrosting them when needed, and pouring on the sauce. Thank you for the wonderful recipe!

    • Hi Jill! I have not tried freezing, but if I did -I would do just that.Freeze the sauce in a separate container, then pour when ready! Glad you enjoy these- they are irresistible!

  16. So happy I stumbled across your recipe – I am making these for tomorrow’s 4th of July gathering at my house. Thank you for the recipe and your blog – I will devour it for recipes the way I’m sure I will devour the Ham & Cheese Sliders tomorrow!

Happy, Healthy and Safe 4th of July to you and your beautiful family!

  17. Do the sandwiches come out soggy after having the sauce poured on them and then baked?

  18. Wow! Just tried these for a shin-dig last night. Huge hit!! This is a quick and easy go-to for potlucks from now on. Thanks!

  19. The recipe calls for prepared mustard. Do you use dijon or yellow?
